GitHub accounts and repository identities
Inspect an exact repository URL or owner/repository name.
Choose the right object
A GitHub account can represent a person or an organization. A repository is a separate object owned in an account namespace. Its owner/name URL and stable repository ID describe the repository; the owner's account ID describes something else.
Use the repository inspector for a full repository URL or owner/name pair. Use the username lookup for an account. A renamed login or transferred repository can change its human-readable path, so compare the returned stable ID when identity continuity matters.
Read the actual result
The repository panel keeps owner, language, license, fork/archive state and timestamps separate. Missing license or language data stays unavailable; a blank field is not proof of a particular license or language. A private or deleted result is not replaced with a different repository.
Stars, forks and followers describe popularity. Platform rarity concerns account identifiers and comparable source signals, not a repository's market value. Signing in or looking up a repository does not establish control over it.
